August 15th, 2024 - GP Candidate Jon Serrano Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire and Arms Embargo on Weapons to Isr*el
– Jon Serrano, Green Party candidate for New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District, today announced his firm stance in support of an immediate arms embargo on weapons being sent to Israel. Serrano believes that the U.S. should reevaluate its foreign policy and military aid, particularly when it leads to the escalation of violence and undermines efforts for peace.
“Providing military aid in the form of weapons to regions embroiled in conflict does not contribute to peace, but rather prolongs and exacerbates violence,” said Serrano. “I stand in solidarity with the people advocating for peace and human rights for the people of Gaza. The United States has continuously committed war crimes right under our noses for decades, and I truly cannot understand the complacency of the American Government and its lack of authority to call for an immediate ceasefire. I am a firm believer in peace above everything. There are not two sides to genocide. The United States needs to take a clear and principled stance by halting the flow of weapons to Israel until there is a commitment to genuine dialogue and diplomacy.”
Serrano emphasizes that the goal of this embargo is to encourage diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace. He believes that the U.S. should prioritize policies that support conflict resolution, respect for human rights, and sustainable solutions in the region.
The candidate also calls for transparency in the use of U.S. funds overseas, stressing that taxpayer money should not be used to perpetuate conflict. “Our foreign policy should reflect our values, including the defense of human rights and peace-building. We need to be responsible about where and how we allocate our resources,” Serrano added.
As the Green Party candidate for New Jersey’s 10th District, Serrano consistently championed policies prioritizing diplomacy over militarization, calling for sustainable and peaceful solutions to global conflicts. His stance on the arms embargo reflects his broader commitment to human rights, peace, and accountability in government.
July 14, 2024: Joint Statement From Khalil for Senate and The Jon Serrano Campaign
While recording an episode of Grown Folk Talk with Forest Nance, we received news of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump that took place at a rally in Pennsylvania, leaving the shooter and another attendee dead. Our thoughts and prayers are wit Trump for a speedy recovery, and with the family of the attendee killed in the line of fire. The entire situation was, regardless of the victim and victims, was an act of violence.
This is an exact moment in time where political affiliation should not be considered, because an innocent person was killed. We all should never stoop to the level of wishing someone dead. While we have enemies, that brings us down to their level. The way we rise above is by remaining empathetic. Thank you.
June 11, 2024: Standing Against Injustice: Condemning the Raid on Rutgers Newark Encampment
I am deeply dismayed by the recent raid on the encampement at the Rutgers-Newark Campus. This encampment was one of the few public demonstrations in New Jersey advicating for Palestinian rights. The abrupt and unjust manner in which it was dismantled is both shocking and disgraceful.
I stand firmly with those involved in Newark Solidarity, and those who did everything in their power to remain peaceful, and ensure that they were using their right as citizens of these United States to peacefully protest. I have been diligently educating myself about the ongoing issues in Gaza, and I remain committed to this cause until Palestine is FREE. Our struggle for justice and human rights is intertwined with that of the Palestinian people; none of us are truly free until Palestine is free.
I would like to call on Mayor Baraka of Newark and his social media claims stating that no one was removed from the encampment, and that no police were sent. I must clarify that the officers involved were from Newark Poalice Department, not Rutgers PD. Video evidence shows these officers using force against profressors who were standing in solidarity with the students. This behavior is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the actions taken.
April 24, 2024: Jon Serrano releases statement in regards to the passing of 10th Congressional District Representative Donald Payne Jr.
"My heart is heavy with the news of the passing of Congressman Donald Payne Jr., a leader of the 10th Congressional District whom many may have looked up to. His departure leaves a profound void in the halls of Congress, and his most recent call for a ceasefire before his passing in the Middle East showed the progress he sought out.
While I no longer affiliate with the Democratic Party, being human always comes first. As I was just beginning my campaign, I intended to meet with Payne Jr. and discuss the trials and tribulations he had to go through when first entering office himself, and how exactly I could make the same impact that he intended.
While we mourn the loss of Congressman Donald Payne Jr., let us also celebrate his family history and the work he had done for the people of the United States and the 10th Congressional District. May his memory continue to inspire us to work towards a more just, equitable, and compassionate society, and may his family, friends, and constituents find solace in the lasting impact he has left on our hearts and in our communities."
